The virtual reality is here to stay, and there is a key player in the electronics industry that is not directing its activities to serve solutions. It is a reality that the mobile world has much to say in this, since much of the devices that we use used as a phone brain and screen.
Who is the chief designer of mobile processors? It is ARM and also wants to be a major player in this helmets and parallel realities. Concepts such as process graphics power and latency are improving each year, but in the movements of a helmet are presented as crucial, and we must learn to adapt to new needs.

Many companies like Qualcomm, Apple or Samsung, decided to make their own designs, but still the majority who decide to spend the responsibility to be ARM – HISILICON, MediaTek, Rockchip – both in regards to GPU as a CPU.
The last thing ARM has introduced us to them at Computex is the core architecture Cortex-A73 processor, accompanied by a new graphic design unit called Mali G71 process. These two names will go to the most important phone 2017 with virtual reality in mind.
Both designs improve performance while consuming less energy. Let’s know them better:
ARM Cortex-A73, the large core
It is a name that we must aim, first as the replacement for the Cortex-A72, also the A57. It comes with 64 – bit design and the possibility of being related to smaller nuclei in this they call big.LITTLE. We will see in configurations with core ARM Cortex-A53 and A35.
According to British ARM, the new A73 will be 30% more powerful than what they have now, but also 30% more efficient energetically. Much of the blame will have the ability to run at higher speeds, up to the 2.8GHz (2.5 in A72). The other important thing has to do with their manufacture, those who opt for it will have to pull 10nm processes already managed companies like TSMC and Samsung (although we will see solutions created on 14 and 16nm).

Apart from the ability to process virtual reality, ARM understands that the mobile world requires very extreme states of use: the same is hours at rest, you need an hour maximum performance for a game. This peak usage will be better managed in Cortex A73, for longer periods of time.
Mali G71, the new GPU
Mali has a new graphics unit for the mobile sector, and is built on a new architecture called “Bifrost”, which has been designed to be scaled and placed on hardware of different levels and prices.
It is assumed to be 50% more powerful than current Mali, and 20% better energy efficiency. Mali T880 GPU compared with ARM promises that the G71 will double the number of “shader cores” to 32, and improve the mechanisms for CPU and GPU can access the same memory.
If we are interested or not such specialization towards virtual reality is another debate, which is a reality is that any developments in miniaturization, power and autonomy, is welcome in the mobile world. Almost without realizing it, all ARM and friends are creating in this field is being transported to other areas of electronics, and is not necessarily mobile spaces.
